Thank you to everyone for their feedback. We have taken all your ideas into consideration and have made positive changes to our project as a result. We reversed our focus and looked at the reasons for the digital divide first, allowing us to gain a better insight into the causes. Then we researched the reasons for digital divide in other countries in order to look for possible solutions. The idea to change our focus came about from the feedback, we were given. We were made aware it was quite statistical and information based and we needed to further synthesis what we had learnt. We had also not clearly identified the reasons for why the digital divide occurs.
In this refocus, we discovered van Dijk’s Access Gaps Model and focused our project based on this. It gave us a means to refine our ideas and what was important to include in this project. Although it was a lot of additional work refocusing our project, we feel we produced a more useful and higher quality project as a result.
As suggested, we have gone further and have found solutions that potentially can be adapted to New Zealand educational contexts. However these could be of benefit to other countries as well. Using ‘real time’ projects and ideas allows for further learning as these projects continue to develop and evolve.
On a final note we used Weebly to present our work and found it was temperamental with its formatting. We have tried to fix issues as best as possible. In hindsight we would probably use a presentation tool that allowed for better responsiveness and synchronous collaboration.
